Floor Too Slippery After Cleaning

Spilled grease oil and liquids on floor surfaces are often at the root of the problem but some floors are slippery even when clean.

If the floor is wet to the touch after mopping run a dry mop over it to absorb excess. Reusing the same mop after cleaning causes a layer grease soap and moisture to form. Cleaning laminate floors keeps them looking good but that isn t the only reason you should do it. Marble floors and concrete garage floors can be especially slippery.

Whether your hardwood floor is slippery because of too much wax or you spilled something on it vinegar is a wonderful cleaning solution. Cleaning with a simple solution of warm water and mild dish soap will also keep the floor from getting a buildup of slippery cleaning solution on its surface. When you allow a thin layer of dirt to accumulate it makes the floor more slippery because it destabilizes the surface much as a layer of water makes roads more slippery and dangerous. Too many or too few coats of finish were applied.

Floor accidents may cause serious spinal damage and head injuries that can even result to death. Using wax based cleaning products on linoleum may offer a high gloss to the floor but it also creates a slippery surface according to the floor critics. Sealed hardwood floors can withstand the moisture and heat from a steam mop and they clean really nicely with a streak free finish. This in turn causes the floors to become slippery.

Vinegar works by cutting grease and removing wax buildup both of which can lead to slippery floors while also removing odors stains and preventing mildew from hardwood. Using chemical solutions that can add grip and resistance to your flooring is one solution that can make the floor less slippery.

Always apply dust mop treatments per label instructions. Grease soap and moisture may cling to your mops. Always use a dry mop after cleaning and polishing. Both situations can result in a slippery floor.

Rinse or machine scrub the floor then dust mop using non oil dust mop treatments. Oily or over treated dust mop. Apply three or four coats and then test the floor for slip resistance. With a floor that has tile slipshield.

However avoid using a steam mop on unsealed hardwoods as they re more vulnerable and easily damaged by excessive moisture. Too many slippery surface situations to cover in a single post. Those floors will have to be brushed or washed down to keep them clean.
